11 US destinations land on Forbes list of top travel spots in 2023

A West Virginia riverside city, a Georgia wildlife refuge, and a Utah national park hotspot have all made Forbes Advisor’s list of the “Best Places to Travel in 2023.” Forbes Advisor editors and writers created an intentionally eclectic list of 50 hot global destinations. “Destinations range from quick weekend getaways to trekking out to some of the most remote parts of the Earth,” the editors wrote.

Among the 50 top picks are 11 domestic travel destinations:

  • Athens, Georgia
  • Chattanooga, Tennessee
  • Colorado Springs, Colorado
  • Encinitas, California
  • Hocking Hills, Ohio
  • Kanab, Utah
  • Marathon, Florida
  • Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, Georgia
  • Page, Arizona
  • Riverhead, New York

  • St. Albans, West Virginia

The Forbes picks include numerous excellent starting points for nature lovers. Lake Powell and the nearby Antelope Canyon slot canyons can be
reached from Page, Arizona. Kanab, Utah, is close to the national parks of Zion and Bryce Canyon. The Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge in Georgia has over
500 square miles of quiet, pristine wetlands that Forbes writers recommend visiting by canoe. Forbes describes St. Albans, West Virginia, as a “Mountain
State gem” surrounded by nature. Forbes recommends starting your day in St. Albans with a cup of coffee from Coal River Coffee Company, then visiting
The Tap for a craft brew and a “bar-b-queterie board.”
There are two options for those looking for a beach vacation. Encinitas, located just north of San Diego, made Forbes’ list because of its surf spots, seafood, and tacos. Marathon, Florida Keys, has sandy beaches and clear blue waters.
