Following the Footsteps of Harry Potter: A Magical Tour of the UK

As a young Indian who grew up reading and re-reading the Harry Potter books, the idea of actually walking in the footsteps of the famous wizard himself was a dream come true. So when the opportunity finally presented itself, I couldn't resist the temptation to take a magical tour of the UK, visiting iconic locations from the books and movies.

Adventure Began at King's Cross Station

My adventure began at King's Cross Station, where I was immediately drawn to Platform 9 3/4, where Harry and his friends caught the Hogwarts Express. The platform was bustling with fans, all eager to capture the perfect photo pushing a trolley through the wall. I too couldn't resist the temptation, and after several tries, I managed to get a perfect shot.

From there, I made my way to the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London, where I was transported to the world of Harry Potter. As I explored the different sets and props, I felt like a child again, lost in a world of magic and wonder. The highlight of the tour for me was walking through the Great Hall, which was just as grand and majestic as I had imagined it to be.

Alnwick Castle

But my journey was far from over. I travelled to Alnwick Castle, which was used as the exterior of Hogwarts in the first two films. As I walked through the grounds, I could almost hear the echoing footsteps of Harry and his friends as they made their way to class. The castle was also home to one of the most memorable scenes in the series, where Harry and Ron learn to fly on broomsticks in the courtyard.

As I continued my journey, I made my way to the beautiful city of Oxford, which was used as a filming location for several scenes in the movies. The most iconic of these was the grand staircase of Christ Church College, which served as the entrance to Hogwarts in the films. I also visited the Bodleian Library, which was used as the Hogwarts library in the films, and explored the quaint streets and alleys of the city, which seemed to be straight out of a fairy tale.

Harry Potter Themed Food

No trip to the UK would be complete without indulging in some delicious food, especially if it's Harry Potter themed! From sipping butterbeer at The Three Broomsticks in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios to enjoying a Hogwarts-themed feast at The Great Hall in Warner Bros. Studio Tour London, I felt like I was transported into the wizarding world myself. But the magic didn't stop there. I also stumbled upon The Cauldron in London, a Harry Potter-inspired bar and restaurant where I brewed my own magical cocktails with the help of a wand and science! And let's not forget the vegan cream tea I had in Oxford, where I couldn't resist snapping a photo of me pretending to be in the Hogwarts library. The food may not have been made by the house elves, but it was definitely fit for a wizard!

But the highlight of my journey was the magical atmosphere that surrounded me throughout my travels. Everywhere I went, I was reminded of the wizarding world, and I couldn't help but feel like a part of it. From the excitement of King's Cross Station to the wonder of Alnwick Castle and the grandeur of Oxford, I was swept away in a world of magic and enchantment.

As I returned home, I realised that the magic of Harry Potter had touched my life in more ways than I had ever imagined. The books had been a constant source of comfort and inspiration for me, and now, having experienced the world in real life, I felt an even deeper connection to them. I will always cherish the memories of my magical journey through the UK, and I know that they will stay with me forever.
